Code Of Conduct

'The Voulntary Code of Conduct for Hospital Purchaser Provider Agreement Negotiations between Private Hospitals and Private Health Insurers' is designed to encourage best practice in contracting and is principally concerned with the negotiation process.

Privacy

In response to the extension of the Privacy Act 1988 to the private health care sector from 21 December 2001, APHA commissioned the Private Hospitals Association of Queensland (PHAQ) to develop a comprehensive privacy toolkit for private hospitals.

  • The Privacy Kit for Private Sector Mental Health Service Providers (611.8 kb PDF)

    The Privacy Kit for Private Sector Mental Health Service Providers has been developed by the Mental Health Privacy Coalition, comprising the Australian Private Hospitals Association, the Australian Medical Association, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and the Mental Health Council of Australia. It was released on 6 April 2004.

    The Privacy Kit has been developed in consultation with, and is supported by, the Federal Privacy Commissioner, who has written a Preface to the Kit. APHA has been represented on the Mental Health Privacy Coalition by APHA Vice-President Christine Gee and Paul Mackey, APHA's Director, Policy and Research.

Professional Indemnity

The professional indemnity insurance crisis, even more severe than that of medical indemnity, poses a threat to the viability of private hospitals and various high-end services they provide.

The following documents are of great concern to private hospitals and their ability to enter in contracting arrangements with private health insurers.
