    <title>NSW Private Hospitals Call for Blood Tax to be Defeated in Legislative Assembly</title>
    <description>NSW Private Hospitals are calling on the NSW Legislative Assembly to defeat the proposed Blood Tax introduced today where private hospitals are to be charged for blood and blood products.  More than 50 private hospitals are collecting signatures of hospital staff, doctors and patients to present to the NSW Legislative Assembly. Along with the petitions, the Australian Private Hospitals Association is placing newspaper advertisements advising NSW taxpayers about the proposed Blood Tax.</description>

    <title>PRIVATE HOSPITALS ACKNOWLEDGED FOR OUTSTANDING RESULTS</title>
    <description>Three leading hospitals were congratulated for outstanding results tonight at the 28th Australian Private Hospitals Association National Awards Ceremony held in Adelaide. 

St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney has won the 2008 Australian Private Hospitals Association Award for Clinical Excellence. The award, which recognises private hospitals that have excelled in the provision of clinical treatment and have demonstrated excellence in patient care across the entire hospital operation, was presented at the 28th APHA National Congress in Adelaide. It recognised St Vincent’s for running an exceptional Warfarin Anticoagulation Safety Project over twelve months in order to change clinical treatment and improve patient care. 

North Gosford Private Hospital has won the 2008 Australian Private Hospitals Association Ambulatory Care Award for its Rehabilitation Therapies Unit. The award recognises private hospitals that have excelled in the provision of clinical treatment and demonstrated excellence in patient care in an ambulatory care setting. The Reconditioning Day Program at North Gosford Private Hospital is designed an outstanding program for patients who have noticed a decline in their activity tolerance, muscle strength and balance. 

Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, located in Gateshead, NSW, has won the 2008 Australian Private Hospitals Association Award for Community Involvement. The award recognises the contribution of a private hospital to the broader local community and was awarded to Lake Macquarie Private Hospital for the innovative ways it has taken its community to heart. These include medical expos, lecture series, community health checks and support for cardiac and breast cancer patients.

“All of the award winners tonight should be extremely proud of the work they do”, said Michael Roff, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Private Hospitals Association. These awards recognise the pursuit and achievement of excellence by private hospitals, and highlight the high quality and innovative services they provide.”
