ST ANDREW’S HOSPITAL ACKNOWLEDGED FOR
CLINICAL EXCELLENCE IN NATIONAL AWARDS
St Andrew’s Hospital has tonight taken home the Clinical Excellence Award for quality of care and patient outcomes in the annual APHA/Baxter Awards for Quality and Excellence in private hospitals. The award recognises one private hospital nationally each year that has excelled in the provision of clinical treatment and has demonstrated excellence in patient care across the entire hospital operation.
The award recognises St Andrew’s Hospital for its development of the “Integrated Performance Management System”. This is a locally devised method to identify, measure, monitor and manage key performance indicators. This program was developed to continuously and objectively improve quality and safety across the organisation, monitor progress and sustain interest and involvement over time. The Senior Executive Committee and the Board of Management use the IPMS to assist in identifying the organisation’s residual risks and inform strategic planning within the hospital.
St Andrew’s Hospital has been able to create an organisational improvement culture through the creative application of the clinical staff, clinical auditor and monitoring all, without any extra staff or IT expenditure.
“Safety, for both patients and staff, and quality of service provision is at the heart of all private hospitals but with this system, St Andrew’s is leading the way nationally in improvements,” said Michael Roff, APHA Chief Executive Officer.
Other award categories and winners: Tamara Private Hospital in Tamworth won the APHA/Baxter Award for Community Involvement for its innovative use of recycling Kimguard. Currumbin Clinic in Queensland and Joondalup Health Campus in Perth were joint winners of the APHA/Baxter Awards for Ambulatory Care. Sydney Adventist Hospital won a Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Service Provision to International Communities for its HealthCare Outreach Program.
