Adelaide Private Hospital wins National Award for Clinical Excellence

St Andrew’s Hospital in Adelaide has won the Australian Private Hospitals Association Award for Clinical Excellence.
The award, which recognises private hospitals that have excelled in the provision of clinical treatment and have demonstrated excellence in patient care across the entire hospital operation, was presented at the APHA National Congress in Melbourne.
St Andrew’s was recognised for developing a purpose built Integrated Performance Management System to assist the hospital in identifying, prioritising and monitoring risks and integrating quality as a core component of all activities.
The system has led to significant improvements in the quality of care and patient outcomes in a wide range of areas including improvements in dietary services, a significant reduction in the number of patient falls and the elimination of narcotic overdose events.
The Executive Director of the Australian Private Hospitals Association, Michael Roff, said by winning the award, the hospital had shown a continuing commitment to the provision of quality care, achieving best practice outcomes for patients, staff and the community.
“The judges were particularly impressed with the St Andrew’s entry in that it demonstrated a clear linkage between a process to improve services and clinical outcomes, implementing change and then measuring the positive impact of those changes.
“In addition, this award recognises the work of the staff throughout the hospital who collect the data for this system and are continually involved in the quality improvement process,” Mr Roff said.
