Member Services

Angela Hook, APHA Member Services Manager

As many of you are aware, I have recently joined the team at the APHA Secretariat Office in Canberra and took over the role of Member Services Manager in March 2009. In the last 7 months we have had 9 new Full Hospital Members join the Association, plus 4 new Gold Associate Members and 2 new Associate Members.  In addition, 2 new Major Sponsors (Fresenius and Medicraft Hill-Rom) have joined the exclusive group of Major Sponsors.  Another important development this year for APHA is that HESTA Super Fund has now substantially increased their support of the Association by stepping up from the Major Sponsors group to become the new APHA Diamond Sponsor.  HESTA Super Fund has been a long time benefactor of APHA and their support of the Association, and in particular, as the principal sponsor of the 2009 National Congress demonstrates their commitment to private hospitals and their employees across the country.

Also this year, a comprehensive membership survey was commissioned by APHA and carried out by Best Practice Australia (BPA).  This 2009 Membership Survey is a good news story for APHA.  The evidence is compelling that over the past 2 years APHA has worked on the things that were most important to members as identified in the 2007 Survey.  There were 25 (quantitative) performance-oriented questions that were asked in both the 2007 and 2009 surveys.  These questions focus on APHA’s core activities and services in 4 key areas: Lobbying, Communications, Market Intelligence, and Industry Information.  24 out of the 25 attributes improved at a statistically significant level thus reflecting positively on the hard work APHA has done over the past 2 years on the key areas members identified in the 2007 Survey as most important.  I look forward to working with the team to achieve our priorities for the year ahead.
